Il Pellicano leaves a mark. Sometimes quite literally. Charles Finch remembers first going there as a nine-year-old boy and stumbling into the swimming pool - before emerging with a huge scrape across his chin. “And I’ve still got it to this day!” he says, a lilt of pride just detectable in his voice. Well, if you’re going to get a lifelong scar, you might as well get it at Il Pellicano – that rock-slung hotel, clad in ripe terracotta and billowing with pale parasols, which sits in some Tuscan fever-dream next to the Tyrrhenian Sea.
