To celebrate our long-awaited freedom, we’ve teamed up with Volvo to give one lucky Gentleman’s Journal reader and a friend the chance to win a long weekend packed with adventure and arts in the Lake District – including a hotel stay, festival tickets and the use of an award-winning Volvo SUV courtesy of our Scandi friends.
Yep, you’ll be in the driver’s seat of a brand-new Volvo Recharge Plug-in hybrid SUV, a sustainably luxurious, not to mention safe, set of wheels for navigating the peaks and troughs of England’s biggest national park, headed to the much-lauded Kendal Mountain Festival (19-22 November).
It’s the biggest social event for outdoor enthusiasts around the world, so you’ll rub shoulders with some of the most intrepid explorers out there – from cave rescue divers to paraclimbers. Want a piece of the action? Join fellow festival goers on a 10k trail run around Kendal.
But if you’re more of a spectator, not to worry. Settle in for an indie film that will transport you from the surf spots of British Columbia to backcountry Greenland. These guys also put on a brilliant arts offering in which they celebrate the relationship between people and landscapes through spoken-word, poetry, photography and illustration. Ultimately, be you a creative type or extreme-sports enthusiast, it’s all about community and connecting people.
You’ll bed down in Castle Green, a Victorian mansion-turned-hotel rooted in the Cumbrian landscape, from its locavore menus to the woodpeckers that populate its 14 acres of woodland. The spa is especially welcoming after days on the fells – plus, there are charging points here so your Volvo can have a little boost too.
Autumn is a great time to explore the Lakes, when the crowds of summer are gone, forests are ablaze with colour and purple heather carpets the hillside – and with this bumper prize, you can really immerse yourself in nature.
