About Last Night… The Fitzdares Club at Goodwood

Giddy up for the most glorious day in the racing calendar

Ah, Goodwood! They don’t call it glorious for nothing. On a sunny afternoon in the South Downs, the great and good of London descended on the storied race course for a spot of betting and not a little champagne. Their host for the day was Fitzdares, your favourite gambler’s favourite bookmaker, who had set up residence at the racecourse with its very own Fitzdares Club at Goodwood.

There was lots of nice food on offer to match the sun-kissed surroundings — a subcontinental feast, in fact, which kept the likes of Patrick Grant and Lady Cash in samosa chaat and brisket tacos until the cows (or horses?) came home. (There was also a fountain of Veuve Clicquot, which tends to help.)

Lord March and the Duke of Richmond

With more than 13 bookmakers closing their doors every single day in this country, it’s encouraging to see Fitzdares bucking the trend — largely, perhaps, due to its lovely level of service, as shown by the brokers who were on hand at Goodwood to help novices and experts with all their racing needs.

Notable guests down at the Club included Noelle Reno, Pips Taylor, Donna Ida, Olivia Inge, Danielle Copperman, Jack and Kate Freud, Polly Lovelady, Bryony Daniels, Robert Walton MBE, Sarah Kate Bryne, Harriet Rose, Lord March, Harry Jarman and Perry Pearson. Giddy up!
