Meet the young Kennedys

Schlossbergs, Schwarzeneggers and Kennedys — say hello to the new generation of America’s original first family.

What’s in a name? Well, if you’re a Kennedy, a hell of a lot. An entire annexe of the modern press has been devoted to this curious celebrity political dynasty, much of it centering around the phooey ‘curse’ that supposedly stalks all those born into the name. And though certain offshoots of the tree have shed the dreaded ‘K’ word (as off-shoots are wont to do), the fascination with this most successful and tragic and genetically-blessed of families continues.

But who are the youngest generation of the bloodline, what do they do, and how do they hope to further that most famous of legacies? Gentleman’s Journal presents your cut-out-and-keep guide to the young Kennedy clan.

Patrick Schwarzenegger

Age: 25

Where does he fit in:

Son of Arnold Schwarzenegger and Maria Shriver; grandson of Eunice Kennedy Shriver; great-grandson of patriarch Joseph ‘Joe’ Kennedy snr.

What does he do:

Patrick is a model and actor (not to mention son and sometime training partner of papa Arnold) who is a regular fixture in LA’s oofier circles. Something of a young prince around town, Patrick dated Miley Cyrus for a little bit and will appear in thriller Daniel Isn’t Real this summer.

Katherine Schwarzenegger

Age: 29

Where does she fit in:

Daughter of Arnold Schwarzenegger and broadcast journalist Maria Shriver; granddaughter of Eunice Kennedy Shriver; great-granddaughter of patriarch Joseph ‘Joe’ Kennedy snr.

What does she do:

Katherine, an author and actress, is the eldest daughter of Arnold. After graduating from the University of Southern California in 2012, she published a book: I Just Graduated… Now What?, a compendium of life advice from entrepreneurs, artists and athletes. In true Kennedy-Schwarzenegger fashion, she is embedded in Hollywood royalty: in January 2019 she became engaged to Chris Pratt.

Christina Schwarzenegger

Age: 26

Where does she fit in:

Daughter of Arnold Schwarzenegger and broadcast journalist Maria Shriver; granddaughter of Eunice Kennedy Shriver; great-granddaughter of patriarch Joseph ‘Joe’ Kennedy snr.

What does she do:

A communications graduate of Georgetown University in 2013,Christina is the editor of The Sunday Paper, a lifestyle publication set up by her mother, Maria Shriver. She’s also the executive producer of Take Your Pills, a Netflix documentary about prescription drugs, and a writer for Gwyneth Paltrow’s blog Goop. Christina was at one point linked romantically to Miley Cyrus’ brother Braison (at the same time her brother Patrick was seeing Miley herself).

Robert ‘Bobby’ Kennedy III

Age: 33

Where does he fit in:

Son of Robert F Kennedy Jnr and Emily Ruth Black; grandson of Robert ‘Bobby’ F Kennedy and Ethel Kennedy; great-grandson of Joseph ‘Joe’ Kennedy snr.

What does he do:

A charming man about town and entertainment-industry honcho, Bobby has worked as both an actor (where he played an eerily-realistic college rich kid who ditches school for some Italian antics) and a producer-director hybrid for a handful of documentaries.

He’s also said to be developing a project based on writer Hunter S Thompson’s unlikely political ambitions. Last July, he married former CIA agent and Oxford graduate Amaryllis Fox (pictured above) in what his father described as a “kind of clambake” at the Kennedy family pile in Hyannis Port, which is just about the most New England sentence imaginable.

Joe Kennedy III

Age: 37

Where does he fit in:

Son of Joseph P Kennedy II; Grandson of Robert F ‘Bobby’ Kennedy; Great grandson of Joseph ‘Joe’ Kennedy snr.

What does he do:

A Harvard law graduate with a couple of years in the Dominican Republic Peace Corps under his belt, Joe Kennedy III is cut from classic Kennedy cloth. In fact, he was elected the US Representative for Massachusetts’ 4th congressional district in 2013, where his family roots made him the overwhelming favourite amongst the New England faithful.

In January 2018, the congressman delivered the Democratic response to President Trump’s State of the Union address, where he accused the President of “rolling back rights by the day”.

(Fun fact: Kennedy was dubbed ‘milkman’ at college due to his reputation as a teetotaller. Unable to ply him with drinks, his lacrosse club teammates would jokingly order him glasses of milk at every bar they went to.)

Conor Kennedy

Age: 23

Where does he fit in:

Son of Robert F Kennedy Jr and his second wife, Mary Richardson; grandson of Robert ‘Bobby’ F Kennedy and Ethel Kennedy; great-grandson of Joseph ‘Joe’ Kennedy snr.

What does he do:

Young Conor has inherited the family propensity towards beautiful women and drama at short notice — in 2017, he was arrested following a bar fight in Aspen, and for a period a couple of years ago was dating Taylor Swift. He’s also campaigned for the Ocean Alliance in the fight to save whales. Attended the august Deerfield Academy in Massachusetts, and has a deathly allergy to nuts.

Kyra Kennedy

Age: 22

Where does she fit in:

Daughter of Robert F. Kennedy Jr, and his second wife Mary Richardson; granddaughter of Robert ‘Bobby’ F Kennedy and Ethel Kennedy; great-granddaughter of Joseph ‘Joe’ Kennedy snr.

What does she do:

Described by Town & Country as a ‘social media butterfly’, Kyra is often spotted out and about with fellow dynasty scions Tiffany Trump and Gaia Matisse. After a cyber-bullying saga, it was rumoured that her father, Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., had banned her from using Snapchat and Instagram, where her bio styles her as “somewhere between psychotic and iconic”

Jack Schlossberg

Age: 25

Where does he fit in:

Son of Caroline Kennedy and Edwin Schlossberg; grandson of John F Kennedy and Jackie Onassis; great-grandson of Joseph ‘Joe’ Kennedy snr.

What does he do:

Jack is imbued with all the ambition and Ivy League prestige of his forebears: after graduating from Yale in 2015, he popped over to Harvard Law School to pursue an MBA — a fast stream into big business or political heights, depending on who you ask.

The latter may be more likely, if a recent essay he wrote for Politico is to be believed, while an appearance on The Today Show saw him echo grandfather JFK’s democratic optimism: “People are taking it upon themselves, young people especially, organizing around the country to do what they think is right for our national interest and to choose good leadership.”

In May last year, he presented the JFK Profile in Courage award to President Barack Obama.

Tatiana Schlossberg

Age: 28

Where does she fit in:

Daughter of Caroline Kennedy and Edwin Schlossberg; granddaughter of John F Kennedy and Jackie Onassis; great-granddaughter of Joseph ‘Joe’ Kennedy snr.

What does she do:

Like her brother Jack, Tatiana went to Yale, where she edited the flagship paper the Yale Herald. After interning at the New York Times in 2012, Tatiana became a staff reporter for the paper, where she covers climate change and the environment.

Rose Schlossberg

Age: 30

Where does she fit in:

Daughter of Caroline Kennedy and Edwin Schlossberg; granddaughter of John F Kennedy and Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis; great-granddaughter of Joseph ‘Joe’ Kennedy snr.

What does she do:

Another Ivy League graduate, Rose studied English at Harvard (with dalliances in film and fashion.) In 2016, She launched an apocalyptic comedy web-series called the End Times Girls Club. Rose, who was named after JFK’s mother Rose, has been described as a doppelgänger of her grandmother, First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis.

Kathleen ‘Kick’ Kennedy

Age: 29

Where does she fit in:

Daughter of Robert F. Kennedy Jr., and his first wife Emily Ruth Black; granddaughter of RFK and Ethel Kennedy; great-granddaughter of Joseph ‘Joe’ Kennedy snr.

What does she do:

Named after JFK’s wild child sister, Stanford alumnus Kick mines the rich family seam of acting and writing. A contributing editor to tony US publication Town & Country, she has acted in televisions shows The Newsroom, Gossip Girl, and Curb Your Enthusiasm.
