Inside the incredible £834k Eagle Spyder GT

Believe your eyes, gentlemen, automotive perfection does exist

Believe your eyes, gents, automotive perfection does exist. What you’re looking at is the Eagle Spyder GT, the latest creation from Eagle – the East Sussex-based Jaguar E-type restomoder and restorer.

Eagle has been at the forefront of E-type restoration and betterment for the past 33 years, with masterpieces such as Eagle Speedster, Low Drag GT and numerous ‘no compromise’ E-type restorations to its name.

Based on the Eagle Speedster, first revealed in 2011, the idea for the Spyder GT came from Speedster customers’ demand for a hood – just in case the oh-so-trusty British weather let them down. Surely not?

Eagle Spyder GT 06

Sporting Eagle’s own 4.7-litre straight six engine that’s capable of producing 330bhp, the Spyder GT will reach 60mph from standing in less than five seconds and go on to a top speed of 170mph. Weighing just 1029kg, the Spyder GT has the same power-to-weight ratio as a Porsche 911 GT3. Punchy performance for a car based on something created in 1961, no?

At this point, it’s worth noting that everything on the Spyder GT is entirely bespoke. From the seamlessly smooth aluminium coachwork to the magnesium components, the car you see before you – the first Spyder GT to be delivered – has taken a whopping 250 days to create.

Priced accordingly at, ahem, £834,000, the Spyder GT weighs in around the same price as Eagle’s Low Drag GT. With only six Spyder GTs planned for production, the price is reflective of Eagle’s razor-sharp attention to detail but also almost unparalleled levels of automotive exclusivity. Sure, a standard, good condition E-type convertible may cost less than a quarter of the Spyder GT’s price tag but can you really put a price on perfection?
