Christmas Day Cocktail: The St Nick’s Festive Fizz

Most Christmas cocktails tend to be stodgy – filled with cream, or topped to the brim with eggnog. But, in the post-Christmas dinner lull, a filling festive drink will be the last thing you want.

Instead, why not indulge in something fizzier and lighter – that nonetheless keeps the Christmas spirit, and spirits, flowing: the St Nick’s Festive Fizz.

Fill a highball glass with ice, and add two long measures of Johnnie Walker Red Label or a similar soft, sweet whisky. Top up with an elderflower tonic, and squeeze in the juice of half a lemon.

Throw in a dash of Grenadine to bring out the flavour of the tonic and – to give it that last Christmas kick this cocktail needs – garnish with an orange wedge studded with cloves.
