The most expensive yachts a gentleman can charter

Yachting, once defined as ‘the art of slowly going nowhere at great expense’, has long called to the world’s wealthy. The lure of the sea can be strong, but the pull of navigating it from a floating pleasure palace is stronger. Yachts are, however, voracious creatures; money must be poured in to their yawning mouths, making owning one the domain of those who can still spend liberally when the economy is in free-fall. Chartering one, on the other hand, involves making a one-off payment, allowing you to bypass the year-round docking fees, maintenance, fuel and crew salaries that a yacht owner would have to pay. It is, comparatively, a snip – but at £400,000 a week for the cheapest on the list, you’ll still need pockets as deep as the watery abyss you’ll be sailing on.
