The Christina O super yacht – an object of desire

What do John F Kennedy, Winston Churchill, Frank Sinatra, Richard Burton, the Aga Khan and John Paul Getty have in common? Well, yes, they are all icons renowned for their suavity and style. But they have also all partied on board the Christina O, a converted warship into super yacht – which was sold by Edmiston for a cool €25 million.

Bought by Aristotle Onassis in 1954, the Christina O yacht has more quirky details than you’d expect in a Gilkes and Stirling venue. Among the highlights are bar stools covered in whales’ foreskin, a swimming pool with a Minoan mosaic lining the floor and a crew of 35 international sailors (it sleeps 36 guests, too – in case you get bored of playing with the gadgets by yourself).

Add to this the ghostly whisperings of its famous former guests – others include Marilyn Monroe, Greta Garbo, Maria Callas and Jackie Kennedy – and you have a truly glamorous setting. You could recreate Grace Kelly and Prince Rainier of Monaco’s wedding reception, which was held on board (but of course). Or just wander around the library, state rooms, Jacuzzi (yes – on a yacht!) and fitness centre before having a go on the water skis. Whatever floats your boat.
