Wishlist: What we want this week

From watches to whisky flasks, this is what we want this week...

Launched last week at an exclusive event in Switzerland, Longines’ latest quartz watch boasts some spectacular features. Dubbed V.H.P – for ‘very high precision’ – this watch is accurate to plus/minus 5 second per year.

It also has been afforded a GPD system – ‘gear position detection’ that allows the watch to shut down in the event of trauma or the presence of magnetic fields, and then return to the accurate time when safe again. Waterproof, shockproof – and a thing of beauty, too.

An extremely minimal record player, Wheel is exactly what it does on the tin. Place a record on and it will play – but the needle sits underneath to further minimalise visual noise.

All functions are controlled by the middle stick, and the motor and needle – as they sit below the record – are perpetually protected from dust and accidents. The design also allows it to be used horizontally or vertically – music to our ears.

Just look at this. It’s a snowmobile on steroids, with four caterpillar tracks that look so much fun we can barely contain ourselves. As adept on fine ice as deep snow, these tracks by Can-Am are easily installed on an ATV to create a true alpine machine.

A 20 minute set-up time means you can take to the slopes in no time, and the rubber over-molded wheels pair with smart design to offer superb traction with only a little vibration.

It may be a little retro, but we defy you not to fall in love with the design of this vintage Prospector Canoe. A bright yellow, with red, black and white accents, this is the latest release from 8-year old boating start-up Sanborn Canoes.

Constructed with a Carbon-Fiber, Kevlar and Fiberglass layup, cherry ribs, caned seats and trimmed out in ash and cherry hardwood the hull has a gel-coat finish, this is a real call to adventure – and one we definitely want to answer.

Macallan is fantastic whisky, of that there is no denying. But challenge some of the best engineers around to create the perfect hip flask and this is what you get, the Macallan x URKWERK flask – utilitarian, but with a real industrial charm to it.

In their unique collaboration – and a run of just 500 pieces – the two companies transformed the everyday whisky flask into something striking in both looks and performance. Composed of over 150 parts, a machined aluminium, titanium and stainless steel work of art features two titanium tanks, each with a 108ml capacity.

A labour of love from the London-based distillery, Sipsmith V.J.O.P – the honest acronym standing for ‘Very Junipery Over Proof’ – was born from a desire to create the ultimate gin for juniper lovers.

‘Imagine the botanicals as components in an orchestra,’ says Sipsmith. ‘Here we have taken the lead instrument, juniper, and amplified its presence in the ensemble, then raised the decibels by increasing the proof alcohol. The result is our very own symphony in ‘J’ major.’

This may be a little more ‘Bond villain’ than the other boat in this week’s wishlist, but Frauscher’s 640 Mirage actually has a heart of gold – as it is electric, and will not harm the environment at all.

As a result, coast to your heart’s delight. Powered by a 60kW engine, the 24.5-foot-long vessel boasts a generous seating area, retractable ladder and optional extras including a Bluetooth audio system for lazy cruising, under seat-chiller drawer and a bimini top.
