In West Sussex, you’ll find the best of Britain. But it is back in West Sussex — this county of South Downs rambles and the Slindon Pumpkin Festival — where the winemaking magic started. A unique luxury hotel, Amberley Castle can be found sitting pretty on the south side of the River Arun — set within a 900-year-old castle and enclosed by a 60-foot characterful curtain wall. Owned by the esteemed the Brownsword family, it has been turned into perhaps the most exclusive hotel in the South Downs by staying small, private and boutique. In fact, just 19 bedrooms make up the hotel, with cosy communal spaces including the incredible Queen’s Room restaurant and its barrel-vaulted 12th century ceiling.
