WHAT’S ON – Excitement Builds for The Cheltenham Festival
Words: Violet
It’s finally here, The Cheltenham Festival begins tomorrow and we couldn’t be more excited. The Cheltenham festival is the embodiment of everything that is great about racing – the thrills, spills, fashion and fun. Despite the ridiculous levels of rain we have had recently, the ground is apparently still drying out, no doubt all involved are grateful for the burst of sunshine over the weekend.

Largely regarded as the pinnacle of jump racing, the Cheltenham Festival, which features the Gold Cup, the Champion Hurdle, the Champion Chase and the World Hurdle, will play host to some of the greats in racing over the next few days. Long Run, Best Mate, Big Buck’s, Kauto Star, and Denman, all made their names on this track, so no doubt we’re in for an action packed few days.
With four days of amazing atmosphere, excitement and fun to look forward to, we give you a quick run down of what to expect on each day…
TUESDAY 11TH – CHAMPION DAY
Tuesday sees the tapes rise as the first day gets off to a cracking start after 12 months of build up and training.
WEDNESDAY 12TH – LADIES DAY
Wednesday at The Festival is Ladies Day, giving women a chance to have some serious fun with the Ladies Day fashion awards and pull out all the stops.
THURSDAY 13TH – ST PATRICK’S THURSDAY
St Patrick’s Day is celebrated early at Cheltenham on Thursday, with the racing as competitive as ever, with the Ladbrokes World Hurdle and the Ryanair Chase firmly at the centre of attention.
FRIDAY 14TH – GOLD CUP DAY
The four days of heart-racing finishes, and jaw-clenching scares comes to a dramatic climax in the Betfred Cheltenham Gold Cup, the highlight of arguably the best day’s racing of the year, arguably with an atmosphere unrivalled by any other day in the racing calendar.
