What your Phone Says about You

What your Phone Says about You

Words: Violet

A decade ago, this feature would have been completely redundant. The phone you had didn’t define you as a person so much as the amount of money you had and how much money you could be bothered spending on the damn thing. Today in 2014, however, our mobile phones are so much more a part of our lives and our personalities. We use them socially, at work and for many they are the very last thing we look at before we go to bed. There is a whole language and culture dedicated exclusively to phones. The choice is overwhelming and most phones are completely accessible, just like the clothes we wear, our phones are an extension of our style and who we are. Or rather, who we want to be perceived as.

Now some of you will be writing this off as complete rubbish but so much is the theory there that many big companies have researched into it, one of those being TalkTalk. They want to know what type of people gravitate towards what type of phone… and so do we! So here it is – taken with as much salt as you see fit – what your phone really say about you.

iPhone

, Look around, everyone has your phone. It’s not your fault, Apple are just mighty clever that way. It’s the safe option; still considered to be relatively cool, easy to use and you won’t be branching out from the norm. There is also a lot of choice when it comes to being phone savvy, whether you are Whatsapping, Instagraming, Facetiming or just plain phoning, there are other people in the iPhone pack who are just the same as you. TalkTalk’s research also concluded some interesting results. Generally, you are image conscious, spending the most on clothing and grooming and rate yourself as more attractive than those with other handsets. You’re a media type who is confident and ambitious. What’s more, according to Australian phone company Telstra, you are extroverted and enjoy international travel.

Owners of the iPhone 5S care about image more than any other phone owner. You have to have the latest model and you have been a loyal Apple customer for years. Well, your iPad and Mac just wouldn’t be the same withouts its third amigo…

Android

, , You’re the type who buys a phone for the phone, not the image. You get more for your money because you are not buying into the Apple branding and that suits you just fine. Artistic and creative, Telstra says Samsung owners like playing video games, while HTC users are more often than not men. TalkTalk’s research also claims you are the heaviest drinkers and the best cooks. Bravo! Oh, and apparently you spend the most time on social media.

Blackberry

, Blackberry users are all about the emails. Well, it makes sense for work, doesn’t it? You are filled with distain when you look at people on their iPhones. No apps for you. According to TalkTalk you are the highest earners working in finance or property and you drink the most coffee or tea.

Old Model

, Whether it is a noughties flip phone or a retro Nokia, if you own an older phone you are saying one of three things. “I am older and I don’t concern myself with following the trends and staying up to date. It needs to ring and that’s it.” OR. “I live in East London and I don’t want people to think I concern myself with following the trends and staying up to date…. but I really do care. A lot.” OR. “I just lost my phone and this is my temporary replacement.”
