The weird and wonderful things you need to know about this week

A private yacht at 32,000ft, a smart belt to count your calories and $200 million to live with an 89-year-old – this is the best of the web from the worlds of property, tech and fashion.

Few property sales have caused as much of a stir as this one. Hugh Hefner, media mogul and life long Lothario, is to sell his home for a whopping $200 million. There is, however, one condition: Hugh gets to live there as well with the new owner, much like acquiring an old dog.

Technology moves at an electric pace. One minute the world is marvelling a new remote-controlled drone, the next it seems somewhat defunct, dwarfed by the Ehang184, a drone with the ability to carry a passenger.

Looking like something from the Avengers, a fully functional prototype has got off the ground and achieved a speed of 100km/h, with a flight time of 23 minutes. Commuting looks set to become a lot more fun.

SKYACHT ONE

Because, why wouldn’t you put the incredible interior of a private yacht in the equally as incredible shell of a private jet? It’s a blend that mixes better than port and stilton, fish and chips, red wine and rib eye. Skyacht One is the collaborative brainchild of SottoStudios/LA and Embraer Executive Jets, and breaks new ground in experiential luxury.

If someone had told you about this idea prior to its launch, you would be forgiven for assuming the outcome, while innovative, may carry the aesthetics of a six-month old banana skin. It’s often the way that boundary-breaking function takes priority over form, but Samsung have done away with this notion with their latest ‘smart belt’.

The Welt (terrible name) is capable of measuring your waistline and monitoring your intake and step taken per day – without ruining your sartorial disposition. As smart belts go, this is the industry bar.

ONE SHOE, TWO FACTORIES

Sticking with innovative style, the collaboration between athletics brand New Balance and traditional British shoemakers Grenson has caused quite a stir. Their creation? The Made In England 576GRB. Watch the video to find out more.
