The best of Britain gives us Bremont, a Henley based family firm, who since 2002 have been making exceptional timepieces. Nick and Giles English, sons of EX RAF pilot Euan English, first got their inspiration for their aviation related timepieces through their father.
In 1995, the brothers’ father Euan was killed in a tragic flying accident, while Nick managed to survive the terrible wreckage. If that wasn’t enough to put the boys off flying, in the 1990s they made a crash landing in a field in France and afterwards had to push their small aircraft to a nearby barn and stay with a farmer for the night. The farmer had some spectacular clocks and timepieces in his home, and still wore a wristwatch that his father had made, his name was Antoine Bremont.
Nick and Giles were adamant that their watches would be precise and durable. They had no interest in quartz, so mechanical movements were made. Their aim was for their watches to be at home in a boardroom or on the top of Mount Everest and their target market isn’t too difficult to spot as adrenaline junkie characters such as Charlie Boorman, Ewan McGregor, and Bear Grylls wear their timepieces.
The EP120 is a limited edition timepiece from Bremont that was inspired by the MkV spitfire fighter, the most credited World War Two aircraft ever made. The EP120 is made from DLC coated stainless steel and titanium, making it extremely robust and scratch resistant. It’s 43mm case is water resistant to 100 meters, and the movement inside is something to behold. The automatic chronometer can be flipped over to reveal a three bladed rotor that replicates that of the spitfire, which is a great touch in our opinion. The price for the EP120 is £6495, which is on the better value side of it’s competitors at IWC in their pilot’s watches, but maybe slightly more expensive than some Breitlings. The EP120 is sold out but we strongly recommend jumping on any second hand ones that pop up!
