Wakejet Cruise: the ultimate superyacht toy

Wakejet Cruise: the ultimate superyacht toy

Every now and again a new toy makes its way onto the water that captures the attention of water-sports enthusiasts the world over, and when the Wakejet Cruise was unveiled at the 2014 Cannes Yachting Festival it did just that. A fun yet functional concept combined with cutting edge board-sports technology, this Sweden-born product looks set to be the next must-have addition to the superyacht toy collection.

The Wakejet Cruise merges the speed and style of a wakeboard with the flexibility of a surfboard into one hybrid electric-powered board. Built using lightweight military-grade carbon and Kevlar composite material, it works on a jet propulsion system powered by a lithium battery pack which together allow for speeds of up to 25 knots. The speed can be controlled by a wireless waterproof handheld remote and a state-of-the-art onboard system with GPS helps users to navigate whatever ocean, lake or waterway they wish.

The idea of creating absolute freedom lies at the heart of the product, enabling riders to eliminate the need for boats, kites, waves or wind to get out on the water for some adrenaline-fuelled fun. Like any great project there is a passion that drives it and the team at Radinn (standing for Radical Innovation) are in their own words a team of ‘extreme sporters that happen to also be engineers, entrepreneurs, industrialists and financiers’. Founder Philip Werner is a professional wakeboarder himself while the rest of the management team, including Alexander Lind, Alexander Frederiksen and Antonio Ometto, are each seasoned water-sports adventurers.

The Wakejet Cruise is currently in production with the first batch of pre-orders due out in time for summer. Undoubtedly this will make a popular toy on board charter yachts but if that is something that remains on your vision board for the time being, the board is compact enough to fit onto a small boat or even in a car so is perfect for a weekend away on the coast.
