There’s no way around it. Going bald is a big deal.
If you’re anything like me, the thought of losing one’s hair sends waves of dread through your entire body. It’s difficult to explain exactly why this is, but it’s impossible to see how not having something we want could ever be a good thing.
It’s inevitable for men to lose at least some hair during their lifetimes, but there’s also a large percentage that will eventually lose it all. It’s an unfortunate reality, and the earlier you realise this the better. There are certain preventative measures you can take involving doctors, but for the sake of this article we’re going to presume that you’ve accepted your fate and that you’re going to embrace your shiny new head.
If you are feeling down about it though, you’ll enjoy this quote from Bruce Willis: “I don’t make a big deal out of it. Whether you’re a man or not comes from your heart, not from how much hair you have on your head. It’s my f*ck-you to all those ads that say that you’re not a real man if you’re losing your hair or if your hair is thinning. I get so many compliments from guys who say thank you for championing this look.”

Now, back to business. One of the major advantages of going bald is that it requires little to no maintenance. Gone are the days when you spend excessive amounts of time preening your new hairdo. Now, all you have to do is throw on some clothes and head out the door. You’ll still likely want to care for your appearance though, so here are some products that will help you and your head look your best.

Those who are bald will likely still grow a few pesky hairs here and there, and chances are you’ll want them gone. Whilst cut-throat razors offer the closest shave possible, they are rather intimidating. A straight razor is perhaps the perfect solution as it offers the feel of its sharper sibling, yet the safety and precision of a more contemporary-style razor. This one is made of stainless steel too, so it will stand the test of time.

For those who still possess a fear that they might slice themselves, a safety razor is the way forward. This one by Baxter of California is balanced with a heavy solid metal handle, allowing you to shave with accuracy. Remember to gently glide the blade over your head in single motions, and don’t apply any unnecessary pressure – let the blade do the work.

Similarly to a regular shave, a quality moisturiser is essential for cooling and soothing the skin on the top of your head. Infused with Penhaligon’s signature Bayolea scent, this one is as fresh as they come.

The skin on your scalp is the same as anywhere on your body. That means that products you’d use elsewhere will be more than appropriate. Take this SPF50 body lotion for example; it provides the essential moisture you need as well as protecting your skin from those harmful rays, which of course your head is very susceptible to.

These simple products will ensure your head looks healthy year-round. Baldness is inevitable for some, but if pulled off with confidence you’ll appear suave, elegant and sophisticated. Embrace it, gentlemen.
