Simple, stylish and strong. This bike was made for the summer

Custom motorcycle shop Auto Fabrica create two-wheeled adventure machines. Their latest may be their best…

Over-engineering is often design’s downfall. Whether it’s an architect trying to be too clever with a building, an inventor taking a risk with a new piece of tech or a mechanic trying to improve on two-wheeled perfection. You’ll be thankful, then, that Auto Fabrica’s Type 7E is as simple a piece of kit as they come.

Built for fun, adventure and to withstand the most spontaneous and unpredictable of trips, this is a bike ready for anything. It was designed to withstand the abuse of off-road riding and tested to extremes.

Using Yamaha’s SR500 as a base, the Type 7E has been stripped back and redesigned — to be simpler than the original model. The engine refined, frames de-lugged and lightened with a custom rear seat unit added. The tanks have been modified and custom filler caps installed to refine the aesthetic. Because, other than its hardiness, this bike is really all about looks.

Just look at the way that those bespoke, handmade sand-bent exhausts run so high — at once a masterclass in design, and practical to allow the bike a path through high water.

Similarly, the trials tyres fitted to the Type 7E afford the bike a rugged handsomeness while giving it the grip it needs to venture off-road with confidence. The suspension has also been customised at the front with stiffer springs to improve handling and performance — and aluminium mudguards protect the rider without adding too much weight. They really have thought of everything.

When it comes to colour, our favourite is definitely the 7E with a gloss white finish. That weather-proof, hand-stitched canvas seat in dark navy has us particularly excited. But it may be a bold colour choice — with the off-road adventures we have in mind, it won’t stay white for long…
