2014’s Salon International de la Haute Horlogerie (SIHH) saw minor advances in design, mechanics and craftsmanship with some top brands stepping out into new territory (Piaget set the record for the world’s thinnest watch). It wasn’t a year for outlandish models, more over the selection of watches presented were of medium width and thickness with watch straps spanning the ‘bracelet’ style, canvas and luxury alligator. Many of the brands presented watches with an average price up from last year’s event and will be releasing them throughout the year for £10,000-£200,000. However, alongside this, The Gentleman’s Journal saw lots of more affordable models, a select few of which we are very excited about. Here are our picks for the best of the bunch.
Montblanc TimeWalker Extreme Chronograph DLC – sub €5,000 (price TBA)

IWC Aquatimer Automatic 42mm est $5,750

Baume and Mercier Clifton Chronograph 43mm – sub $4,000 (price TBA)

Ralph Lauren RL 67 Safari 39mm – $3,150
