Shoe Of The Moment: Chelsea Boots
Words: Alex Woodhall

The ultimate in rock ‘n roll footwear, Chelsea boots were one thing that united the Stones and the Beatles back in the ‘60s and Kanye West, Harry Styles and David Beckham today. Adapted from Victorian riding boots, they’re defined by their close fitting style, elastic side panel and rounded toe.
An iconic fixture in the mod scene, they’re quickly becoming a ubiquitous element in the modern man’s wardrobe. While they might stir notions of rock, roll and rebellion, they’re make for a smarter option for a dressed down stance, so much so they can even be worn with a suit. That’s not to say they go with everything however, a slim trouser is prerequisite for successful Chelsea boot styling, a roomy pant will ruin the effect and look nothing but slovenly.
The fact they have no laces make them ideal for so many, the quick pull on nature means no more messing around with laces or boots that fight against your feet; simply slip on and step out. Picking the right pair is paramount however. A chunky and overbearing sole ruins the whole sophisticated, sleek style of the Chelsea; if you need a truly practical boot, this is not it.
With spring now officially upon us, suede makes an excellent choice for bringing a tactile touch to your ensembles. Leather whilst not currently the popular choice certainly isn’t a bad one. The hardier material will stand up better to the elements, than it’s napped counterpart, the spring season, is, after all known for its inconsistent weather.
