Richard Branson and CGI elephants go viral to save rhinos from extinction
Words: Charlie Gardiner-Hill
In a heartfelt appeal posted through his global empire’s philanthropic arm, Virgin Unite, and on YouTube by the African Wildlife Foundation entrepreneurial billionaire Richard Branson has urged the western world to intervene and save the rhino from extinction.
However, far from the oft-heard calls for anti-poaching brigades and harsher policing on poachers, Branson is taking a more educated approach, quite literally. The acclaimed wildlife activist and campaigner has called for the western powers that be to educate and inform Chinese and Vietnamese populations, the largest consumers of ground Rhino horn, of the wildlife crisis they are causing.
It’s not a rarity for Branson to go ‘viral’ on the web, photos of nude kitesurfing world champions on his back as he rides the waves of Necker island caused an internet meltdown, and he looks as at home as ever in this latest video (bar the rather poorly CGI’d elephants that appear at the end).
