To celebrate both 110 years of their watch manufacturing, and the eighth edition of the Saatchi Gallery’s SalonQP earlier this month, Swiss watchmaker Montblanc have launched a limited edition, five-piece run of their Orbis Terrarum.

The 4810 Orbis Terrarum Great Britain is mechanically identical to the original model. But, rather than the standard day/night disc indicator decoration, this attention-grabbing world timer has used the dial as a blank canvas on which to feature the Union Jack.

The Terrarum itself first appeared in 2015, and features a third party automatic movement as the basis for its Calibre MB 29.20. To adjust the watch, one of 24 local cities is moved into position by rotating the wheel on which they are printed. Only now, wherever you are in the world, Britain can take pride of place on your timepiece.

Mechanically, the Orbis Terrarum is set apart from other luxury world timers as its rotating sapphire crystal dial leaves the silhouette of the continents transparent, and is outlined by pale blue oceans. This is where the Union Jack comes in, filling the continents like a map of a world-spanning British Empire.
The Orbis Terrarum Special Edition Great Britain will be available exclusively at Montblanc’s Bond Street boutique for £5,600. But, if you’re interested, you’d better be quick – remember, only five of these watches have been made.
