Mercedes-Benz reveal concept pickup, the X-Class

The German carmaker has veered off-road with their ready-for-anything concept

They’ve built cars, bikes and even yachts, but Mercedes-Benz are now taking things off-road, and have launched a new concept pickup, the X-Class.

With all the strengths of a classic pickup – tough, functional, strong, and with off-road capability – the concept X-Class stylish explorer goes a step further than your usual four-wheel fare, and has been revealed in two models, the Stylish Explorer, and the Powerful Adventurer.

The elegant white metallic Stylish Explorer focuses, surprisingly, on the aesthetics of the car. Characterised by an intriguing contrast of warm and cool colours, as well as by high-quality materials, the interior boasts natural nubuck leather, cool white nappa leather and a trim of smoked oak and polished aluminium.

This modern flair is further boosted by round air vents, the free-standing high-resolution central display and a central controller and multifunctional touchpad. Similar to a smartphone, all telematics functions can be controlled with the touchpad by using gestures or by entering letters and characters.

But it isn’t all gadgets and beauty. With 22-inch light alloy wheels, a V6 diesel engine and 4MATIC permanent all-wheel drive, this is a high-torque machine that shares the same payload – 1.1 tons – as its more outwardly tough brother.

The Powerful Adventurer is 1.9 metres tall. With huge ground clearance, front and rear underride guards and built in winch and hook, this is a vehicle which impressively underscores Mercedes’ seamless melding of durability and style.

Finished in lemonax metallic paint, the Adventurer focuses on toughness, durability, and off-road capability. From specially tailored seat-bolsters to top-of-the-line traction system, this is a car ready for anything – and with the ability to overcome any challenge in style.

Mercedes-Benz promise to launch the X-Class in late 2017, when both variants – including what the carmakers is touting as the first true premium pickup ever, the Stylish Explorer – will hit the roads, and so much more.
