London Fashion Week Men’s: dunhill continue to innovate

London Fashion Week Men’s was kicked off in style on Friday evening, when the who’s who of the menswear scene convened on dunhill for their SS18 presentation. And, what better way could there have been to introduce the recently-appointed Creative Director, Mark Weston, and his new vision for the company than with good company and free-flowing drinks.

Weston had a challenge to face. He was tasked with reinventing and renovating the range, bringing freshness and new ideas to the brand, whilst also retaining the charm and traditional methods that make dunhill dunhill.

Centred around the personal style of the modern gentleman, and attempting to move away from fashion’s increasingly-fleeting practices, the new dunhill has shouted down society’s want for the disposable, and is instead showing us why investing in quality and longevity is the key to true style. No stranger to innovation, dunhill have always been firmly at the vanguard of new techniques and styles since their inception in the 19th Century. As such, they take their duty to constantly elevate modern tailoring incredibly seriously, and the AW17 and SS18 collections are a testament to this commitment.

Whilst keeping the brand’s heritage of luxury tailoring close to their heart, dunhill’s most recent collections contain nods to contemporary styles. These relevant updates to a timeless wardrobe come in many forms, but our favourite seamless introduction has to be the layering of cross-seasonal colours.

Autumn offerings are heavily reliant on natural-tone cashmeres and tough, earthy denims – whereas the spring collection shakes things up as a contemporary revision of the brand’s classics; predominately shown by introducing a sporty twist on classic get-ups. Think pairing your bomber jacket with smart trousers and white sneakers.

Overall, Dunhill has played it relatively safe in providing separate pieces that leave little-to-no room for any styling faux pas. So, no matter which quality piece wins out to become the latest addition to your wardrobe, you can be certain that it will fit in just perfectly.
