London Collections Men Round-Up: Part 1

London Collections Men Round-Up: Part 1

Friday marked the official opening of London Collections Men which continues to showcase the very best creative and design talent from around the world through a packed schedule of shows, presentations, installations, dinners and parties. We take a look at the highlights of day 1 and 2…

Harrys of London

, Known for their unique combination of high quality craftsmanship, technical design and quality, Harrys of London’s SS17 collection brought us colourful updates on their classic designs. Showcasing what could be described as a “shoe for everyone” the endless array of styles, materials and colours had everyone talking. Alongside smaller leatherwear accessories and effortlessly chic luggage, our personal highlight had to be the introduction of the desert boots. Coming in Mango Orange, varying different blues and more subtle neutral tones, we predict every well-heeled gent to be wearing these come next summer.

Topman had the honour of officially opening the doors of LCM this year, with their show kicking off the weekend on Friday. In a show that Dylan Jones hailed on Instagram as being “one of the strongest openings of #LCM in ages…a great, uplifting collection”, we were presented with casual tailoring, short shorts, a nod to the 70s with high-waisted denim and a series of bright, bold sweatshirts and an incredible array of loose and light outerwear. Topman never fails to impress, and this year was no exception.

Barbour

Looking back to their coastal heritage there was a strong maritime influence running throughout the Barbour presentation on Friday. Both the Original North Sea Outfitters and Heritage Collections were displayed showing lighter versions of their iconic outerwear. Lightweight jackets with new breathable mesh linings were shown alongside irresistibly soft marl knitwear and contemporary summer shorts. We were particular fans of the collegiate inspired jerseys with their large branded “B’s”, not just for Barbour, but for some of the brand’s most iconic wax jacket styles (the Bedale, the Beaufort and the Border).

Oliver Spencer

Oliver Spencer rounded off an incredible first day of LCM on Friday evening, with a collection that saw the return of the basics that he does so elegantly. Soft tailoring, light outerwear and a wider leg than we’ve seen in past seasons were all stars of the show. Particular standouts were the array of sunglasses, a soft blue checked overcoat and a work-wear inspired blue bomber jacket.

Jermyn Street

Kicking off day 2 of LCM was the amazing open air catwalk on the iconic Jermyn Street. The show was a collection of all of Jermyn Street’s most important brands, including favourites such as Turnbull & Asser, dunhill, Emma Willis and New and Lingwood. The whole collection perfectly represented the modern gentleman. Impeccable tailoring and classic accessories were a particular highlight.

Hardy Amies

Hardy Amies presentation represented everything that modern day Savile Row should: soft tailoring, impeccable suiting and outerwear that perfectly completes every gentleman’s outfit. Perfect for the modern day man. Light textures were a running theme throughout, and some of the strongest pieces in the whole collection were the boxed denim-style jacket.
