Issue Preview: Baby Driver’s Ansel Elgort covers Gentleman’s Journal

From Sir Paul Smith to Sir James Dyson, dive into our summer issue

It may be a mongrel by name, but this two-wheeled tearaway by Mutt Motorcycles is a thing of beauty. Gentleman’s Journal chose the bike for our bi-monthly ‘Deconstructed’ page, laying out everything that goes into the machine and proving that every dog has its day. Elsewhere in ‘The Pick’, we drive the McLaren 720S and pay a visit to the best globemakers in the world.

In an exclusive interview with Henry Tobias Jones, Sir James Dyson takes us on a tour of his Malmesbury Campus, the home of Britain’s most electrifying company: Dyson. Describing how to do things “The Dyson Way” the greatest British entrepreneur explains how his company is set to revolutionise homes all over the globe. Other interviews include Tom Blomfield, founder of Monzo, and Jose Eisenberg – arguably the world’s greatest art collector.

Following in the footsteps of Lord Mountbatten, Jonathan Wells goes in search of the new India – 70 years after the jewel in the British colonial crown was freed by the empire’s last Viceroy. Through deserts, bustling cities and interviews with everyone from tuk-tuk drivers to Indian MPs, we investigate if there are any hard feelings left. But, with a country so beautiful, it can be hard to keep our mind on the job…

In our Art & Design special, Gentleman’s Journal dips its brush into the world of high creativity. We talk to Britain’s greatest living designer, Paul Smith about what inspires him, even getting him to take a camera on his travels for some bespoke #takenbypaul photographs. Other features see renowned actor Babou Ceesay explore the Tate Modern’s new ‘Black Power’ exhibition, and a trip to the Steinway pianos factory in Hamburg, to discover how they’ve been hitting the right notes for years.

The Gentleman’s Journal fashion team hit the road for their latest fashion shoot. Inspired by the great outdoors, we took classic Land Rovers and exciting bikes to the forest trails of East Sussex to show off some of the best pieces from Oliver Spencer, O’ Keeffe, Fidir and Belstaff’s latest collections.

Ahead of the biggest event in the country’s sporting calendar, we go behind-the-scenes at Wimbledon. Talking with the teams who make sure every blade of grass is in place before the first serve, we ask what really goes into staging one of the greatest shows on earth.

We pick the products that are hot this season throughout, with our best sunglasses being a particular highlight. With frames from Ray-Ban and Persol among our choices, ensure you look stylish this summer. Other product pick pages include the best espadrilles to keep looking – and feeling – cool in the coming months, and headphones that both look and sound great.

To make our first ever split cover, Gentleman’s Journal sent the editorial team to New York where we threw a party celebrating the arrival of Ansel Elgort. With his appearance in the biggest film of the summer, Baby Driver, we talk to Ansel about how it feels to be in the driving seat of Hollywood.
