Head to Hurlingham Park this June for Chestertons Polo in the Park

From a Pimms Bus to bicycle Polo, this is what you can expect from the annual sporting and social event

Every year, at the height of summer, the great and the gorgeous gather at Hurlingham Park to celebrate the most gentlemanly sport there is: Polo. Teams assemble, champagne is poured and the British public see which of the international teams can handle the heat.

It is, without doubt, the most accessible polo event in the UK, with general admission tickets starting at £30. But, if you’re looking to soak up the spectacle in style, don’t worry — there is still a great selection of VIP packages for those looking for a more exclusive experience.

With three polo matches each day, there is plenty of action to keep you enraptured from the grandstand — or the private VIP garden. And if you want to get even closer, why not hang over the edge and high-five the players as they gallop past?

There is some serious international competition at this event — with the English national squad going up against Ireland on the first day alone. But, if you’re feeling a little more light-hearted, there’s Oxford vs Cambridge bicycle polo on Saturday.

You can also expect city teams from all over the world competing for both the prize and pride of being crowned 2018 Champions.

If you can pull yourself away from the action, you’ll find a plethora of bars and eateries to keep you contented on the long summer weekend. From a Pimms Bus to a Maliki VIP area — complete with a DJ and dance floor — you can drown your sorrows or celebrate, depending on how your team fares.

After all of this, if you still have any party left in you, there are various official afterparties held around London. Our pick of the best takes place in the club favoured by young royals, Mahiki.

We can’t think of anything better than spending the day in the British summer sun with good food, good wine and more polo players than you can shake a mallet at. See you at the park!
