Get the look: how to get hair like Bond, Beckham and Gandy

Few things have the transformative powers of the right haircut. It can change the way your face looks, create angles you didn’t know existed and ultimately grant new-found levels of confidence. The perfect coif is up there with a bespoke suit in the style stakes, it instantly makes you a more kempt, complete man.

Imitation, it’s said, is the sincerest form of flattery, and there’s very little wrong in taking a nod from the gentlemen of the moment. It’s rare that we ever get hair envy, but the manes of Messrs Craig, Beckham and Gandy are more than covetous. We confided in the adroit advice of Ruffians‘ resident grooming expert, Adam Brady, on who should opt for what cut, how to get it and ultimately, how to style it:

Daniel Craig (As James Bond)

What’s the style? It’s a classic textured crop. The back and sides are kept short, but scissor cut in order to retain a softer finish, rather than the harsh lines created by clipper cuts.

Who does it suit? Perfect for someone with finer hair, the texture will give the illusion of a thicker crop. Works great if you have a square jaw, as the tight back and sides will accentuate the angles of your face.

How to style the look: for a matt finish, take a small amount of hair clay into your hands and dissipate evenly. Apply to dry hair from the roots with your hands and sweep back, shaping and moulding to your preference.

What’s the style? It’s a quiff, with short, scissored back and sides. The beard has been left to grow out naturally, without much maintenance or trimming – aside from perhaps a bit of shaping on the cheek line.

Who does it suit? The hairstyle, if long enough, will suit most hair types. If you are sweeping the quiff all the way back, it can even conceal a thinning crown. The beard can work better for most people when kept closer to the face, following its natural curvature, for a smarter and more refined look.

How to style the look: apply a paste into damp hair and blow dry it back with a comb in order for it to set properly. For the facial fuzz, use a beard oil and rub into the roots of the beard to avoid dryness, nourish the skin and retain the hair’s moisture.

David Gandy

What’s the style? It’s a natural, textured, swept back look – something that David Gandy has made desirable and famous over the years.

Who does it suit? Those with thick, medium length, wavy hair. With this, you can get height and volume in the front section. Avoid this if you have noticeable temporal thinning/widow’s peak – it will only accentuate it.

How to style the look: For a more casual and relaxed finish, spray in some sea salt spray, and sweep back with your hands. For a more refined quaffed look, apply a paste and a pomade together into damp hair, and blow dry back with a vent brush. Shape with your comb, until the hair is completely dry.
