Five Sequels That Never Should Have Been Made

Sequels, prequels, remakes or reboots. Throughout the years directors have proved that it is often hard, or rather impossible, to recreate a movie to satisfy enthusiasts and film critics. We have listed five sequels, which always had a small chance of becoming equally iconic, but failed to do so.

THE GODFATHER PART 3

Any sequel to The Godfather sounds like a mistake. The first proved us wrong though and remains one of the most critically acclaimed films of all time, sadly the same can’t be said about The Godfather Part 3. An all-star cast, including the legendary Al Pacino, was not enough to save it from failing. A classic you can afford to miss.

STAR WARS EPISODE 1: THE PHANTOM MENACE

Early reviews or even predictions were tremendously negative, although it was hard to believe that the sequel was capable of getting anywhere near its predecessor, there was hope. Unfortunately, it was disappointing to see how Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace managed to leave a ‘black hole’ in the trilogy.

THE HANGOVER PART III

The Hangover film series was never Oscar-worthy, however the original movie has become a culturally significant factor. The previous sequel, The Hangover II, was defectively hiding the fact that it is hard to repeat what once the film was able to do, however the third and final movie proved no different. Contemporary audiences can only handle one ‘Hangover’.

SPEED 2: CRUISE CONTROL

A visually pleasing production, Speed verified its ability to become entertaining and unusual, but had no chance of becoming a trilogy. The sequel was almost a copy of what the 1994 film showed us. Keanu Reeves was replaced by Jason Patric, leaving Sandra Bullock to associate herself with one of the worst sequels ever made.

THE MATRIX REVOLUTIONS

An epic misunderstanding, this film did something the previous two failed to do, it left viewers more confused than ever before by implementing an unnecessarily complex plot, making it hard for fans to understand the entire series.
