OUR PICK – THREE OF THE FINEST RIO RESIDENCES

OUR PICK – THREE OF THE FINEST RIO RESIDENCES

Avid sports fan or not, you can’t escape the hype. Brazil has got everyone on the edge of their seats just now, bouncing from one of the world’s largest events into another in the way of the 2016 Olympics. Anticipation levels are at fever pitch, and with the first whistle of the FIFA World Cup sounding imminently – and let’s not forget about the eclectic range of other draws to this deeply cultured country – The Gentleman’s Journal has had a snoop at a three of the most tantalising Rio properties on the market.

AN OCEAN VIEW…, With an incredible ocean and Pedra da Gavea view, this luxurious 11,800-square-feet residence in Rio would make for an unbeatable base from which to sample the best of the country’s sport and traditions. Amenities include an entrance hall, living room, media room, dining room, open balcony and five en-suite bedrooms.

And the open area, bar for the panoramic pleasures, features a swimming pool, steam sauna and game room. But if five beds doesn’t seem ample for when your friends want to come and get in on the action, panic not – there’s an additional house with three bedrooms and a parking lot for up to 20 cars.

JARDIM BOTÂNICO, A contemporary property in one of Rio’s most idyllic districts, with stunning views from the wooden-decked roof terrace and jaw-dropping infinity pool – 506 square feet of it. This is one hell of a pad. With six en-suite bedrooms, office with mezzanine floor, spa and a Creston automation system which controls light, audio, video, air con and curtains, this boasts all the caboodle a Gent could ever want.

BUCOLIC HOUSE IN BARRA, Something a little different, this awesome building in Barra da Tijuca accommodates colonial influence with modernity and comfort. The architecture showcases the original shape and inspiration of the 17th century, while the amenities tell of story of meticulous eye for design. Inside you have 12,500 square feet and five en-suite bedrooms – the underground wine cellar an added bonus for those inevitable raucous celebrations.

Away from the main house’s interior the temptation snowballs, with a stunning verandah to wile away warm summer evenings, jacuzzi, extensive lawn with fruit trees and a tennis court. I could go on… so I will. As in addition to all this is a guesthouse, designed by the reputed architect Sergio Bernardes, with an attached pool just metres from the door. Guesthouse may be a too casual description, though, as this is no rudimentary side project to the main house, but 3,000 enticing square feet which includes a sauna and fitness room.
