“If you could know the truth about the threat of climate change — would you want to know?” This is just one of the poignant messages that comes across in Leonardo DiCaprio’s critically acclaimed Before The Flood. The documentary, presented exclusively by National Geographic, follows DiCaprio on a journey to five different continents and to the Arctic, to look at the devastating effect that our way of life is having on our planet.
Before the Flood is the result of an epic three year journey that saw DiCaprio meet with some of the world’s best-known scientists and political leaders (Obama makes an appearance) to explore just how serious a problem climate change actually is. The film explores the corruption of certain mass corporations and their inability to take the threat of climate change – but refusing the likes of renewable energy – seriously.
We need everyone to demand bold action from their political leaders and to elect representatives who have their best interests at heart, not the interests of corporations to perpetuate a cycle of greed and destruction
The film mostly focusses on how us both as individuals and a society as a whole can make an active attempt on reversing climate change and, as a result, the impact it’s having on our environment – and to work on putting the right kind of people into positions of power. “We need everyone to demand bold action from their political leaders and to elect representatives who have their best interests at heart, not the interests of corporations to perpetuate a cycle of greed and destruction,” says DiCaprio.
As expected, the film has already received rave reviews. Before the Flood is now airing globally on National Geographic Channel in 171 countries and 45 languages, and is certainly not to be missed.
