It’s been a tough week for gear — literally. Across the past seven days, we’ve seen some of the roughest, toughest, sturdiest and hardiest products of the year hit the market.
There’s been the new armoured Mercedes S-Class, specced out to withstand bullets, blasts and even biological attacks. There’s been anodised aluminium headphones, titanium sunglasses and a watch roll built around a Kevlar core. There’s even been a show of strength from supple suede; with new shoes and jackets bringing the rough to the smooth. Check out our full list of Editor’s Picks below…
Up to speed: Google Pixel 6
Coming this autumn, the latest smartphone from Google looks to be the brand’s smartest, most secure and stylish yet. Thanks to the first in-house processor created by the company — the custom-made ‘Tensor’ — it’ll ensure both the standard and ‘Pro’ models operate at unrivalled, full-tilt speed.

Muscle car: Mercedes S680 Guard 4Matic
It’s incredibly impressive; but also incredible heavy. Weighing in at a tarmac-testing four tonnes, Mercedes’ new armoured S-Class has been built with ‘VR10’ protection classification. That means it can withstand TNT blasts, assault rifle fire — or even two hand grenades detonating on its roof. The windows are 10cm thick, and those specialist Michelin tyres can run for 19 miles after being punctured.
