Wake up and smell the perfume: Histoires De Parfum 1740 Aftershave
The second scent to get our nostrils twitching this week is the 1740 from Histoires De Parfum. Described as ‘truly unflinching’, this is a fragrance for the modern hedonist and stirs together the intoxicating scents of bergamot, prune, cardamom and leather. Spritz on before a heady, balmy summer night’s party for full effect.
Tick-tock: Richard Mille RM 67-01 Extra Flat
A ‘lifestyle’ model from the storied watchmaker, Richard Mille’s latest is an incredibly flat automatic with extreme use of skeletonisation.
Thanks to this design quirk, we still get the sense of visual depth central to the brand’s distinctive aesthetic, but with a new, exciting spin on the mechanics within the case. It’s a different direction from Richard Mille, but one we’re certainly going to follow.
License to thrill: Aston Martin DBS Superleggera On Her Majesty’s Secret Service Edition
Aston Martin have always worn their association with James Bond as a badge of pride. And rightly so — who wouldn’t want Britain’s best superspy driving their cars?
This latest limited edition DBS from the carmaker celebrates 50 years since filming commenced on the sixth Bond film, On Her Majesty’s Secret Service. In olive green, and sporting some striking diamond-turned wheels, count us shaken and stirred.

Richard E Grant’s obsession with scent has served us well. From candles to aftershaves, the actor’s ‘Jack’ brand is one of our favourites — and available now in the Gentleman’s Journal Burlington Arcade store.
This particular fragrance was inspired by the first time Grant emerged from Piccadilly Circus tube station, encountering ‘Patchouli perfumed hippies and Earl Grey Tea at Fortnum and Mason’.
