The best gear in the world right now, from cheerful cashmere to low-alcohol libations
- Words: Dan Scothern
Each week we present to you some of the best products on the planet. Whether it’s reliable footwear or expedition timepieces, these are the items that you need to shake up your lifestyle for the better...
TUDOR - Ranger 36mm
Channelling the true spirit of the expedition watch, the TUDOR Ranger is a hardy addition to any wristwear rotation. Its classic, uncluttered design mirrors the ‘no fuss’ approach of its wearer, while the self-winding mechanical movement tidily concealed in its 36mm steel case allows for a 70-hour power reserve – ensuring the Ranger is still ticking even if other supplies are running low. The matt black’s counterpart: the Dune White dial iteration, further embodies the piece’s adventuring ethos with a nod to the world’s toughest race, and TUDOR’s involvement in the Dakar Rally (where racers are currently traversing the dunes of Saudi Arabia).
Salomon - Husk Prime MIPS Ski Helmet
‘No helmet, no steeze’ is the mantra echoing across The Alps this season. And while we might once have admired a Gianni Agnelli-inspired nonchalance to on-piste safety, it is now those that take precaution that are the most revered on the slopes. There’s no shortage of fine lids on the market, however, the Husk Prime MIPS Helmet from Salomon is top of our list for 2026. Designed for those pushing boundaries, the Multi-directional Impact Protection System mimics the brain’s own protective system for avoiding concussion, while Dual Active Ventilation allows for easy airflow, regulating body temperature and keeping wearers cool on the mountain. Best worn with a pair of the brand’s goggles (to avoid the Jerry Gap)!
N.Peal - Richmond Cable Cashmere Cardigan
Expertly crafted to deliver in both casual and elevated settings, the Richmond Cable Cashmere Cardigan from N.Peal is a January staple. Knitted in a substantial 3-ply construction, this 100 per cent cashmere piece offers unrivalled softness and structure, whilst ensuring optimum warmth for the wearer. The cable knit finish adds character and its Rex fur inner collar neatly completes this winter-hardy throw-on.
Our Place - Ceramic Cookware Set
You likely won’t receive any kudos for originality, but a resolution to ‘cook more’ in 2026 is an absolutely sound goal. And what better way to get started than investing funds that may have found their way into the hands of Deliveroo in a proper cookware set? Comprising 13 pieces (including the 10-in-1 Always Pan 2.0 and the 8-in-1 Perfect Pot) this ceramic collection from Our Place is our standout favourite. Constructed without PFAs (for non-toxic, healthier and safer cooking) and available in colours to match any interior aesthetic, this lightweight and versatile set is great for the chef that you are now, but perfect for the chef you’ll become.
Paul Smith - Gold and Brown 'Matheson' Sunglasses
“Never a frown, with golden brown.” It’s likely that The Stranglers weren’t talking about rakish eyewear when they penned this classic (we suspect we know what they were actually referring to), but the sombrely sung yet joyful sentiment does still apply to these gold and brown specs from Paul Smith. The ‘Matheson’ Sunglasses feature all the charm of any Paul Smith creation, and the contrasting lenses are ideal for the low January sun.
BERO - Double Tasty West Coast Style IPA
Dry January is a tough one to navigate, especially whilst keeping one’s social life intact. Thankfully, our friendly neighbourhood brewer, Tom Holland, and his brand, BERO, are on hand to beat the stigma around sober socialising, without compromising on taste. The days of the soapy non-alc lager are gloriously behind us, and BERO’s Double Tasty West Coast Style IPA provides the full body and crisp finish of a pale ale, only without the sore head.
Church's - Poulton Suede Lace Up Boots
Hiking-inspired, although equally suitable for both piste-adjacent and city-street ramblings, these Poulton Lace Up Boots from Church’s are a welcomed upgrade to the winter shoe rack. The sturdy Commando rubber sole assures safe, slip-proof passage, while the velvety suede upper and functional detailing (metal hooks and eyelets, cotton lacing and leather heel tab) keep extremities warm regardless of elevation.
One Cask at a Time - Auchroisk 2012
For those who fear their bodies may seize up if they even unintentionally attempt dry January, One Cask at a Time has you covered. While this month might not necessitate a full wagon hop, it could provide an opportunity to drink a little less. And, if you’re drinking less, you might as well drink better. One Cask at a Time’s Auchroisk 2012 is a vibrant and fruity single-malt that ticks this box superbly and at 13 years-old (and a slightly punchy 54.8% ABV) it’s a Speyside dram to remember.
Audio-Technica - Hotaru Turntable
A celebration of light and sound, and a sensory embodiment of Audio-Technica’s analogue philosophy, the Hotaru turntable is an unequivocal upgrade to any home AV setup. First unveiled at the 2025 Milan Design Week (and limited to just 1,000 units), this piece takes its name from the delicate glow of Japanese fireflies and comes equipped with an integrated amplifier and speakers to provide a clear and crisp audio experience that’s pleasant on the eyes and the ears.
KESTIN - Dunbar Padded Jacket
A comfortable all-rounder for the back end of Big Coat Season, the Dunbar Padded Jacket from KESTIN is cosy armour against the Q1 cold. Inspired by a vintage American jacket, this 100 per cent recycled nylon top layer offers ample weather resistance with subtle diamond-stitch insulation and a corduroy collar that takes this piece from practical to refined.
