Last night saw the TV Bafta’s 2014, a night of glitz and glamour which saw talented thespians given the highest credit for their work in British television. The biggest winner of the night was crime drama Broadchurch which took home three awards including TV Bafta for Best Drama Series, Best Actress for Olivia Coleman and Best Supporting Actor for David Bradley. Both the IT Crowd and Ant and Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway took home two awards.
Bafta’s biggest honour of the night, a Fellowship for their contribution to film and TV, went to Julie Walters who was celebrated for her work in Talking Heads, Victoria Wood, Educating Rita, Billy Elliot and the Harry Potter series.
Walters shared with the audience, “When I told my mother I wanted to be an an actress in 1969, she said: ‘She’ll be in in the gutter before she’s 20’. But what a gutter, and I shared that gutter with some of the most amazing and talented people without whom I would not have a career.”
Attendees included Julie Walters, Aaron Paul (who took home the international award for Breaking Bad), Sir David Attenborough, Helena Bonham Carter, Rob Brydon, Jamie Dornan and Martin Freeman.
