The Diary: Champagne Lanson at The Championships, Wimbledon

What do Champagne Lanson and The Championships, Wimbledon have in common? Quite a bit, as it turns out, including a sparkling guestlist...

The past few weeks have seen a triumph, indeed: The Championships, Wimbledon returned, at long last, to our social calendars. With a reduced footfall and Covid restrictions in place, it was The Championships in a new, post-pandemic form: but The Championships it was, nevertheless, and the event brimmed over with the style, panache and elegance we’ve all long come to associate with SW19 at the height of the summer.

Of course, when you think ‘style, panache and elegance’, you may well think ‘Champagne Lanson’: and that’s certainly no coincidence. As luck would have it, Lanson was the official Champagne at the Championships: available exclusively at all the bars and hospitality marquees within the grounds of the AELTC, it was a bubbly, breathtaking bastion of luxury and a celebration of sporting excellence. Just the thing for Wimbledon, really.

Lanson is no stranger to The Championships: this is a long-lasting partnership grounded on mutual values, among which include a love of community and of bringing happiness to as many people as possible. All the good stuff, really. And make people happy, they certainly did: Lanson was enjoyed in true tennis-watching style by a guestlist that included Jack Whitehall, Oliver Cheshire, Pixie Lott, Holly Willoughby and Oliver Proudlock, among others.

Of course, if you’re a Lanson aficionado you’ll be no stranger to the beloved Wimbledon-inspired bottle jackets: and 2021 delivered the bottle-jacketed goods in typical Lanson style. Modelled on the classic polo shirt, the 2021 design is encapsulated in two colours: a pink polo shirt adorns the fresh, fruity, salmon-coloured Lanson Le Rosé; and the signature Le Black Label Brut is dressed by a navy shirt — just the thing for a Champagne known for its sophisticated finesse.

We take the intransigent view that Champagne Lanson and The Championships go hand in Champagne-clutching hand; and if The Championships 2021 are anything to go by, it’s a view that plenty of people share. Guests sipped away at their Lanson Champagne of choice in between edge-of-the-seat tennis matches, and Lanson’s aesthetically pleasing presence was rife in this hub of sporting excellence, with polo-clad bottles as far as the eye could see.

If you missed The Championships, though, never fear: Lanson’s limited edition bottle jackets will be available at all major supermarkets throughout the summer. Scoot on down to your nearest Waitrose, select your polo shirt of choice and recreate the glamour of The Championships in the comfort of your own home. Go on; you’ve earned it.
