The seven best summer suits to get you through wedding season
Whether you're looking for lightweight linen or a touch of colour, these trimly-tailored suits are ideal for summer
Words: Zak Maoui
Here they come; summer weddings. And, as the sun starts to shine on this season of vows, open bars and awkward speeches, we’re flinging open our wardrobes and having a clear out. Because, while the various dress codes may bamboozle you into buying outfit after outfit for these life-affirming affairs, dressing for a summer wedding is actually surprisingly simple.
Unless it’s black tie or morning dress — in which case any style decisions are made for you — you only really need one suit for the entire wedding season. But, with the heat beating down and the weather warming up, you want to make sure it’s the most lightweight and - if it's your thing - brightly-coloured suit possible. We’ve RSVP-ed, rifled through racks of options and found the best options below…
Paul Smith Light Green Linen Suit

Let’s start with a statement; a green suit. From British menswear maverick Paul Smith, this option will add a pop of verdant colour — but keeps things casual with notch lapels and a relaxed-but-tailored fit. With a lightweight and breathable linen fabric construction, wear it to any European weddings you may be jetting off to this summer. What's more, a draw string waist gives it another level of comfort.
Ralph Lauren Soft Tailored Chambray Suit

A chambray suit, thanks to its lightweight construction, versatile style and breezy breathability, is ideal for summer. From Ralph Lauren, this pale blue suit makes full use of the fabric (cut from Japanese chambray), and has a slightly thinner construction.
New & Lingwood linen suit

A classic look; the light, linen, single-breasted suit. From New & Lingwood, this is as traditionally-tailored and classically-cut as the style gets. Softly structured, it’s finished with softly-peaked lapels, flapless pockets and is the perfect option if you’re heading to a high society wedding (in the South of France or similar) this summer.
Drake's Sand Irish Linen Tailored Jacket

Onto Savile Row— for our next suiting suggestion. Drake's is known for its bold colours and modern tailoring, and this sandy yellow suit is ideal for the summer. A type of tighter, subtler corduroy, it’s a great option for summer weddings — adding texture to your get-up without the unwelcome weight.
Luca Faloni linen suit

Luca Faloni is our go-to for a simple linen suit, that is ideal for throwing on for any English country weddings. Cut in a slim yet comfortable fit, this suit comprises a jacket that has an unstructured profile and is half-lined for lightness and a relaxed appeal. The two-piece is cut from linen crafted in Northern Italy from exclusive natural raw fibres, which have bee treated with an innovative ‘Relax Formula’ that creates a natural stretch.
Huntsman Grey Wool Three-Piece Single Breasted Suit

Huntsman, the esteemed Savile Row outpost, is a master tailor. While it might be best known for its super formal tailoring, it does do pieces that are perfect for a summer wedding. Take this ash-grey three-piece suit, for instance, which is cut from lightweight wool, making it breathable and durable for year-in-year-out wear.
Charles Tyrwhitt Double Breasted Linen Suit

After a two-piece linen suit that is cut by master tailors, but doesn't break the bank? British label Charles Tyrwhitt will cater to you with its signature Double Breasted Linen Suit, which is the perfect warm weather companion. Made from a lightweight linen, it's comfortable and built for maximum breathability, while a double-breasted profile adds another level of elegance.
Canali green linen and silk suit

The Italians know how to make suits, and this Canali one will come out on top this summer. Exuding the timeless grace of Canali, this linen-silk blend suit consists of a single-breasted blazer with flap pockets and dartless trousers. Made for the man who seeks sophistication.
