Variety is the spice of life, they say. But spices aren’t too bad, either. Floris, the esteemed fragrance house, knows this all too well.
Bergamot is about as enduring and beguiling as fruits come (the citrus’s name derives, by the way, from the old Turkish for ‘Lord’s pear’ — a nod to its heavenly properties). But given a lick of deep, floral, wintery spices, it finds itself elevated to new areas entirely.
This fresh confection by the team at 89 Jermyn Street is a modern re-imagining of the original ‘Malmaison’ fragrance from the first half of the 19th century, incorporating sprightly new top notes and a robust woody frame.
Its warm white jasmine and ginger notes sway softly below the gentle citrus blossom, before a handsome base of sandalwood and muscular benzoin adds rotundity and real character. In short: citrus, spice, and all things nice.
