Manufactured as a direct result of Porsche’s racing programme (RennSport) in 1972, the 911 Carrera 2.7 RS or ‘ducktail’ as it’s affectionately known by Porsche fans is one of the most sought-after models to have rolled out of Stuttgart.

Porsche stripped most of the weight out of the existing 911 by using thinner metal for the body panels and thinner glass as well as doing away with the sound proofing to produce a more race-ready tourer. Performance was upped with larger brakes, a larger 2.7-litre engine capable of producing 210bhp and, of course, the iconic ‘ducktail’ spoiler to keep the rear end planted. A total of 1,580 RS models were produced with 55 of those being transformed to monster RSR specification, which went on to dominate the 1972 European GT Championship.

This model was first delivered to Germany in 1972 before moving on to a private collector in Denmark in the late 1980s where it was restored. The car competed in Germany, Austria, the UK, Sweden and Spain where it won the Porsche Parade handling competition in Barcelona in 2004.
This car will be offered at The Porsche Sale, Silverstone Auctions on Sunday 25 October 2015. Click here for more details.
