15 things we already know about the Apple Watch

Arguably the most important product launch by the world’s biggest company is coming to a wrist near you. Here are 15 things we already know about the Apple Watch.

IT’S MORE THAN JUST TECHNOLOGY,

Typical of Apple, the Apple Watch is somewhat of a design marvel. It boasts an insane attention to detail, the likes of which we haven’t yet seen on wearable tech. It will be something you actually WANT to wear, similar to a fine timepiece.

IT’S THE BIGGEST APPLE RELEASE…EVER?

If what they say is true, and wearable tech really will take over our lives, then the Apple Watch is a big milestone. The Californian company changed the game with the iPhone and iPad, yet it did so when rival companies were already established in both markets. Smartwatches haven’t truly taken off yet, but this is all about to change.

IT’S NOT JUST TOUCHSCREEN

One of our favourite features is the ‘digital crown’, which replicates those found on mechanical watches. Apple watch’s crown will allow you to scroll through apps, but it’s the way it will make you feel that will be the big selling point.

ITS SOFTWARE IS INSTANTLY RECOGNISABLE

If you have an iPhone or iPad, you’ll be right at home with Apple Watch. It will run apps that have been on other Apple platforms for years; they’ll just be optimised for the smaller screen.

IT’S THE MOST CUSTOMISABLE PRODUCT APPLE HAVE EVER LAUNCHED

Its available in a vast number of different strap styles and case finishes, ranging from rubber sport bands to leather dress bands as well as stainless steel to solid gold cases. You can expect a vast array of aftermarket accessories to crop up, too.

IT’S THE IDEAL ACCOMPANIMENT TO IPHONE

The watch can be synced with your iPhone, allowing you to interact with calls and messages from the comfort of your wrist.

IT CAN TRACK YOUR HEART RATE…,

…Thanks to intricate sensors on the case back, which remain turned on throughout the day.

IT CAN PAY FOR YOUR COFFEE

The watch boasts Apple Pay, the company’s new service that replaces your contactless credit card. Now you don’t even have to reach in your pocket to pay.

BATTERY LIFE COULD BE AN ISSUE,

Apple CEO, Tim Cook, has been quoted saying that it will last a full day before it needs recharging. Apple haven’t always been accurate with their predictions though.

IT (LIKELY) WON’T TROUBLE THE SWISS WATCH INDUSTRY

Industry insiders are confident the Apple Watch won’t trouble the luxury watch industry, although we are starting to see Swiss brands work on smartwatches of their own. Only time will tell.

IT COMES IN TWO SIZES…

…38mm and 42mm, your choice.

IT WILL MAKE APPLE BIGGER, STRONGER AND RICHER

Apple’s stock is set to rise upon release, regardless of sales figures.

IT WILL BE (VERY) EXPENSIVE

It will start at around £220, yet high-end models made from 18k gold are expected to set you back a few thousand pounds.

COMPETITION WILL BE STRONG

Big time industry players, Google and Samsung, are investing a lot of money in their own smartwatches, and they’re cheaper and more feature-packed.

THE BIG EVENT IS TODAY, MARCH 9TH AT 6PM (UK TIME)
