The British brand making waves in menswear
Words: Hamish Roy
When it comes to stylish beachwear, inspiration is most often found when looking through black and white photos taken on the Riviera in the 1960’s – a time when Hollywood’s great and glamorous made it their playground. Mabes, a new British beachwear brand, knows this. Founding the company in the summer of 2015, Becky Levett and Giles Maber chose to focus on one product: a luxurious, well-tailored terry towelling shirt.

Shirts from their Classics collection celebrate simplicity and understatement, designed to be as timeless as Bond and the Beatles – two of the British icons that inspired the collection. Offered in block colours, and with a relaxed, open-neck collar and two pockets, its a laid-back style yet with universal appeal. Designed to give what Mabes call ‘hug comfort feel’, these exceptionally soft shirts will only improve with wear.

Shirts from the Limited Edition collection, on the other hand, are more flamboyant and playful. Showcasing vibrant prints, patterns and a profusion of colours, the Limited Edition shirts will set you apart from the crowd. Styles like The Negroni, with its azure floral print, or the verdant frond-covered Palm are bold but considered, matching the hues of summer.

With a range of styles that appeal to the classicist and the more adventurous alike, Mabes shirts offer the chance to reclaim the retrograde cool of the ’60’s with a style that was – and will be again – the gentleman’s go-to beachwear.
