These are the best drinks trolleys to roll into your home office
From golden bar carts to industrial designs, we've rolled out the best drinks trolleys for your home office...
- Words: Jonathan Wells
It’s time to settle in. Working from home — once a fun, gimmicky novelty — is now the new normal. What’s more, things don’t look set to change any time soon. And you know what that means: no more inane water cooler chat; no more stealing office supplies to take home; no more long lunches with colleagues.
And no more after-work, free-flowing Friday drinks, right? Wrong. Since lockdown, we’ve poured our efforts into creating a genuinely impressive collection of spirits. And, from exotic spiced rums to whiskies of the world, we’ve finally curated a serious stockpile of bottles. Now, we just need somewhere to display them.
To that end, we’ve rolled out a trolleyful of the best bar carts money can buy. Multi-tiered and mirror-finished, these spirited statement pieces are the pinnacle of decadent home furnishing. So why not shuffle that spare chair or old side-table out of your home office, and wheel in a glamorous bar trolley instead? Zoom drinks never looked so fancy…
Go for gold with a ritzy, glitzy drinks trolley
These may be a little more ‘Gatsby’ than ‘Don Draper’, but we’re fully behind adding some high-shine pizzazz to your office. Even if you’ve only managed to muster a couple of bottles thus far — and even if your glassware is second-rate — the glow of gold will see you through, and evening drinks will swiftly become a 24 carat affair.
John Lewis have partnered with Swoon for this striking bar cart, inspired by the modernist architecture of the famous De La Warr pavilion in Bexhill-on-Sea. And West Elm’s offering, a trolley designed in the art deco style, boasts a mirrored bottom shelf for extra shine. Even this Kensington Townhouse Trolley from Naken Interiors has a handy design quirk; three secure bottle-holders hidden under the handle.
Knock on wood with a classic, conservative bar cart
If you’re a cigar-smoking, desk globe-spinning, pen-and-paper sort of guy, then you’ll likely want a bar cart crafted from rustic, reliable wood. The most classic and conservative choice, these tough trolleys are as refined as they are understated — and will bring a touch of the mid-century to your home office.
This handsome Exeter Serving Cart from Borough Wharf is equipped with three tiers, glass racks and even a wire frame to keep your four favourite bottles within easy reach. Alternatively, West Elm’s slightly simpler Mid-Century Bar Cart recalls the clean-lined aesthetic of the 1950s and ‘60s. But our favourite? The HARRI bar trolley from German brand [more] — with handles and top plate wrapped in burnished leather.
A trolley with an industrial feel will keep things grounded
It’s not the sixties anymore — so some co-workers may react a little unfavourably to you wheeling a bar cart into the background of your next Zoom call. But, with these industrially styled options, the decadence and depravity of a working day drink will be stripped away — and your midweek Manhattan will be afforded a more practical air.
Take Fulton’s bar cart, for example — set on wheels and thus ready to roll out of shot should the boss chime in. Or Dutchbone‘s ‘Mil’ serving trolley — complete with distressed metal frame, dark marble tops and aged bottle straps cut from buffalo leather. Or to pare things back even further, look to Perch & Parrow, and its simply designed, industrial cage-style cart.
