Mr Marvis’ SS26 collection is a resortwear range without rival
Inspired by the aesthetic of the 1980s, the Amsterdam-based brand introduces technical trousers, short shorts and a trio of new knits…
- Words: Jonathan Wells
Do you remember what trousers looked like in the ‘80s? Because there were some serious strides walking about. Think double pleats and wider-than-wide cuts, power-dressing drapes and high-rise waistlines. Excess was best, greed was good, and the more material gathered up by your belt, the better.
Mr Marvis, naturally, knows this. After all, the Amsterdam-based menswear brand made its name in the trouser trade, and is well-versed in the garment’s shifting fads and fashions — even if they only pulled on their first pair in 2016. Thankfully, while the new SS26 collection may take its cues from the ‘80s, Mr Marvis has had the good sense to sidestep the silhouettes of that era, and stick with something slicker.

What they have stitched into this new range, however, is the spirit of the ‘80s. It’s a bold, vibrant, unashamedly exuberant collection — and no more so than in its colourways. Just look at them! Like the blood-red Barolos of high-rise power lunches, or the powder-blue hue of a sleeves-pushed-up sports jacket. Even the ivy-green sheen of a country club’s tennis courts. The whole gang’s here, in hyper-saturated spades.
And, of course, it’s no longer just trousers on offer. The brand continues to expand its range, with lightweight layering pieces including overshirts, polos and cardigans — all guaranteeing your whole summer wardrobe slots together seamlessly. Here are the headlines…
The Techwools take summer dressing into overdrive

There seems to be another ‘80s influence strong among Mr Marvis’ new summer trousers: retro motors. Just look at the cotton-twill Miuras, in a sunshine shade of Lamborghini yellow. Or the seersucker Gullwings, in a DeLorean gunmetal grey. But the best new drop is a little more back-to-the-futuristic — the ingeniously engineered Techwools.
Cut from a lightweight, wrinkle-resistant wool blend — one that weaves polyester and elastane into the mix for a forward-thinking four-way stretch — the Techwools handsomely stand astride every summer dress code, whether you’re kicking back at the beach or heading to a summer wedding. There are five colours available (we’d go for the mid-blue Mavericks), but endless ways to wear them.
The Short Weekenders are cut down to summer size

For their next nod to the ‘80s, Mr Marvis has come up shorts. According to the brand, this cropped take on their classic cut “reflects a more adventurous, confident approach to men’s dressing, as shorter lengths continue to gain momentum.” Happily, not the barely-there split-runners and thigh-skimmers of the gym-culture boom — but a more respectable, vintage sportswear style.
Tied with an off-white drawstring and fitted with an elasticated waistband, Mr Marvis has also one-upped the fabrics of the aerobics era. Gone are the mesh-lined nylons and polyesters, replaced with a more eco-friendly organic cotton, certified by sustainability-focused nonprofit CERES. Our favourite feature? The hidden zip pocket, perfect for stashing your prized Walkman.
The new knits are ready for sun, shade and everything in between

Next up, knits. But not the spangly, ‘80s-inflected legwarmer kind — rather, some lightweight top layers, finely woven and breathable enough for even the furthest-flung summer getaway. We’re packing a trio of new tops from Mr Marvis, starting with the Airy Knit Polo. With its honeycomb weave, ribbed cuffs and mother-of-pearl-look buttons, it’s available in five block colours and three striped styles, including the punch-red Sangria.
Add to the packing pile the Classic Polo Longsleeve. It’s got the same smart collar, but a softer piqué cotton construction and calmer colour options (go for the iconic white Wimbledons for a big, bright-white swing). Finally, the Midweight Cable Crew, a sleek, chic pullover in either pale blue, navy or white.
The final touches throw back to the power-dressing, poolside ‘80s

Because no resortwear range is complete without a bold beach towel. Mr Marvis has four on offer, each more terry-brushed and trimly designed than the last. And that’s not the only accessory that’s new. A handful of woven belts keep the preppy party going, while a selection of new, simple T-shirts offers unrivalled summer staples.
But it’s in the swim trunks and casual shorts department where Mr Marvis really delivers. Whether printed with parasols or cut from corduroy, there’s something to elevate everyone’s summer wardrobe. And, in a final nod to the ‘80s, why not pull on a pair of lightweight linen shorts covered — in true power-dressing, decadent style — in pool-ready pinstripes?
