Over the last 10-15 years our grooming shelves have grown exponentially. Where there was once deodorant, cologne, a bit of hair product, possibly some moisturiser and shaving paraphernalia, is now a myriad of concoctions and creams that promise eternal youth, or something along the lines of.
Simply put, men’s grooming has become a complicated game and it can be all too easy to get overwhelmed and bogged down, so much so we forget the basics. These are the common missteps you’re most likely making when it comes to keeping your face on-point.
COLOGNE OVERLOAD
Everything in moderation is advice worth taking, not just in fragrance, but life also. A cologne should be tantalising enough that someone wants to smell more when they’re close to you, not so pungent that everyone catches a whiff a mile off. Stick to a spray either side of the neck and at a push another on the wrist before rubbing them together – any more and you’re seriously overdoing it.
As for the scent, check out our top summer fragrances, or stick with a gentlemanly staple, Floris’ No.89 Eau De Toilette.

UNKEMPT EYEBROWS
Whilst you’re putting in the hours trimming that facial fuzz (and possibly other body hair), try not to forget your eyebrows. Although for the brow, dispense with the razor and reach for the tweezers. Pluck, don’t shave, to stave off the dreaded and perpetually unstylish monobrow. On the opposite side, an over-groomed eyebrow is just as bad, aim for a natural neatness.
WAITING UNTIL YOU NEED A HAIRCUT
When you’re a child, your parents most likely took you for a haircut once every six weeks, waiting until your eyes were just peaking out of the unflattering bowl cut before having you trimmed.
Don’t carry on this habit as an adult, aim for a snip every four weeks max and maintain a stylish mane all-month round. Take a read of our guide to the best barbers in London if you’re current scissor-handler isn’t up to scratch.
NOSE AND EAR HAIR
A quick fix but one few of us really bother with. Nobody wants to see a few unsightly hairs poking out of your facial orifices. Get a devoted electric trimmer and groom your nose and ears every so often, no more than once every few months depending on hair growth.

NOT CHANGING RAZORS
A disposable razor is just that, throwaway. The typical blade lasts roughly 2 weeks and a blunt one is doing your skin no good at all. If you’re starting to experience more cuts, irritation and redness from the daily shave then it may be about time you made a change, for the sake of your face.
