Trailer: Mad Max: Fury Road

It has been 30 years since the last Mad Max film; Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome was releasedto a very positive critical and commercial reception. In 1985 Ronald Reagan was president, Nelson Mandela was in prison and Gary Glitter was all the rage – Mad Max is driving his 1973 Ford Falcon GT into a very different world indeed.

The latest film stars Tom Hardy as ‘Mad’ Max Rocketansky, who takes over from Mel Gibson in the forth film in the series. Co-stars include Charlize Theron, Nicholas Hoult, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley and Zoë Kravitz. Despite few of the original cast members returning, George Miller who directed the first three films returns to direct Mad Max: Fury Road. Given the high critical praise the last three Mad Max films received, not to mention the casting of one of the best actors of his generation, it’s fair to say that our expectations for the film are sky high.

The trailer doesn’t give all that much away – though it certainly won’t be short on action. It’s clear that Miller is committed to keeping his portrayal of dystopian Australia as weird and fantastical as possible. Explosions, psychopaths with painted faces and car chases through gargantuan desert storms – Mad Max: Fury Road might not be the most anticipated film coming out in 2015, but it will surely be one of the best.
