It’s the bank holiday weekend, and what better way to celebrate than with some music. Here is the second instalment of our new running feature, The Gentleman’s Journal playlist. We have some summer songs that we can’t stop listen to at GJ HQ, artists including Warpaint, Vance Joy, Tiny Ruins, Mapei, The Acid and Flight Facilities. Enjoy gents!

Over the years the silver screen has gifted us with numerous male movie stars, many of whom have stole the hearts of wistful females with their dashing charm and sultry good looks. Often, these men are dressed in a way that improves their appearance, giving them a nonchalant air of sophistication and elegance that may otherwise be absent. Some men stood above the rest though and throughout their respective careers have solidified their place among the stylish elite. These men have bucked trends, conquered adversity and created a style all of their own. These men are our most stylish movie icons.
The blazer should of course be an item that’s ever present in the discerning gent’s wardrobe, although for summer, things need to be updated a little. The warmer months are undoubtedly a welcome sight for us all, but they do bring with them their own set of problems and, if we are to remain impeccably put-together, we must adapt. Fabric is the number one priority here and as a result we must do away with our woollen workhorses that serve us for most of the year. Cottons, linens and silks should be on the agenda now, as they offer superb lightness and breathability, allowing us to remain comfortable in the sweltering heat. The cut and finish of the jacket is of paramount importance too, as a fully lined, winter weight blazer acts as a metaphorical ball-and-chain, doing nothing but holding us back as we battle with the Sun’s powerful rays. Think unstructured with a soft shoulder and you’re on the right track, as this will give you maximum range of motion and the instant ability to tackle whatever the day throws at you.
It’s true that behind every great man there’s a great woman. When it comes to style though, we’re of the opinion that behind every great man there’s a great watch. A gentleman’s timepiece says a lot about him and, as the details can make or break an outfit, it’s essential that when purchasing some new wrist candy that you make the right decision.
