Alternative Apparel

Alternative Apparel is a fashion brand that cares, providing comfy and seriously cool clothing. They produce clothes that look good, but also make them with comfort in mind too, with the aim of making you feel good as well as look good. They use a fabric that has what they call a “vintage-soft feel” to ensure maximum comfort. Our favourite is the gray Champ Sweatshirt made using part recycled and organic materials. This timeless design, which you might expect to see in a vintage picture of Steve McQueen is a winter must, and at just £30 it’s amazing value for money.

The Diary – Tim Walker Story Teller Party

Last night Mulberry got together with Tim Walker to throw one hell of a party to celebrate his new exhibition “Story Teller”. The party took place at Somerset House, with a full guest list including Helena Bonham Carter, Tim Burton, Cara Delevingne, Olympia Campbell and Kate Moss. The exhibition was full of the weird and wonderful, including a fire place ejecting a Spitfire and a cello-playing grasshopper. With this explosion of the senses, guests were treated to a much needed elderflower and apple Berrytini, the infamous tipple of the day provided by Chase Distillery, a delicious energy boost as the Friendly Fires took to the stage! The free exhibition runs from now until the 27th January 2013, it’s not to be missed!

Ducati Monster 20th Anniversary

The Ducati Monster undoubtedly revolutionised the biking world and today accounts for half of Ducati sales. It’s a statement design that’s not only treasured but praised all over the world by biking enthusiasts, so much so that it’s become Iconic. This year marks its 20th Anniversary hence the release of a special edition, what better way to celebrate! The special edition is a first, with a bronze-coloured frame, chromium-plated finish and vintage Ducati ’86 logo on the tank. It’s a faultless combination of beautiful design and unmistakable beastly modern performance. The Monster continues to be part of motorbiking history, and rightly so.

The Diary – Wool Week Installation Launch

Last night Harvey Nichols hosted a reception for the turning on of its wool week light installation. Guests included the Countess of Wessex, Nicholas Coleridge and Poppy Delevingne. Afterwards they strolled over the road to the Mandarin Oriental for dinner. Wool week continues with Lyle & Scott hosting a ‘wooly golf’ activity on Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Everyone who takes part gets 20% off in store and are also entered into a draw to win £500 worth of Lyle & Scott pieces. What woolly fun.

Jamie Oliver’s Toad in the Hole recipe

With the cold now settling in for the winter ahead, Toad in the hole is the perfect dish for those dark evenings. The origins of the name still remain a mystery, however it is said that the name came from the fact that the sausages look like toads poking out of a hole. Whether you believe this is up to you. With this dish, timing is everything, and the key is to get the oil in the pan scorching hot before you add the sausages and batter. Jamie Oliver’s version with onion gravy is one of the best recipes, and if followed correctly you will be in man food heaven.

Canada Goose Chateau Parker

Canada Goose Chateau Parker

With a bitterly cold winter ahead, a warm jacket is a must and when the Burberry trench won’t do, the parker is the ideal alternative. Canada Goose was the en vogue brand last year and this trend is set to continue. If the name didn’t already give it away, all of their production is kept 100% in Canada, as they believe “no one can do it better”. However they say there is a more important reason, “that cold weather is part of our national identity, and there are no better judges of the quality of our products than those for whom they are designed, and whom by they were inspired”. The Chateau Parka is the perfect winter jacket. It is stylish with its simple, timeless and classic styling, and practical beyond all belief. In fact we can’t think of anything both this practical and yet this stylish.

Tod’s No Code Rubber Soled Chelsea Boots

Tod’s No Code range comes from a collaboration with Publisher and Stylist Mr Jefferson Hack. The range consists of shoes that have an essence of Mr Hack’s eye for detail, stylish design and true old fashioned craftsmanship; attributes we have now come to expect from the Italian shoe maker. Our particular favourites are the rubber soled Chelsea boots with their sleek shape and modern sole. We think these are a sartorial must and would look great with a pair of narrow denim jeans. Available from the online site Mr Porter and priced at £360.
