The Diary – The Diesel & Serpentine Gallery Future Contemporaries Party

This week the Serpentine Gallery and Diesel teamed up to put on one hell of a party. It seemed like the whole of London’s great and good turned up and nibbled on beautiful canapés and bespoke cocktails, asahi beer and wine from Bibendum. Guests included a varied bunch, Princess Eugenie and her mother Sarah, The Duchess of York, rocked up along with Kate Moss and Jamie Hinch, David Tang, Kelly Osbourne, Amber Le Bon, George Lamb and Mary Charteris, also much to the delight of all the girls Harry Styles made an appearance looking as cheeky as ever. Later on in the evening The Kills hit the stage and the party really got going with DJ sets also from Brodinski and Trevor Jackson.

The statement is upheld if you were to eat there at any time, but arrive, sit and choose your two (at £9.95) or three (at £11.90) courses before 19:00 and you’ll receive the best restaurant deal you’ll ever find. Sitting down, we decided on three courses, both enticed by the price and our greediness for the selection of food. The before 19:00 deal involves a choice of four starters, four main courses, and four puddings, while the full, after 19:00 menu, offers a wider selection.

Apple have stolen the show, again, and maintained brand loyalty, perhaps to its strongest level yet. The iPhone 5 is good, really good. Taller, thinner, lighter and faster. It’s the world’s thinnest smartphone at just 7.6mm thick and just 3.95 ounces. That’s lighter than a packet of crisps. The taller handset fits in an extra row of apps on-screen and at 4 inches tall also allows for a 16:9 widescreen retina display. However, the screen width remains the same as its predecessors for ‘hand comfort’, a major plus for those of us who have to text with one hand. The camera capabilities however, remain the same as the 4S, but you can now take photos while filming.

All About Bond: Terry O’Neill Exhibition

Terry O’Neill’s ‘All About Bond’ exhibition at the Proud Gallery in Chelsea could not be a more fitting tribute to mark the 50-year celebration of the true British gentleman, James Bond. O’Neill’s photographs perfectly encapsulate what it truly means to be Bond, both on and off the screen. The debonair British agent has been portrayed beautifully in the collection of photographs; some of which offer a behind the scenes look at a cheekier side of the Bond actors. The array of intimate portraits and iconic images not only serve as a symbol of British culture, but also as a reminder of a more glamorous era. Particular favourites include the fine portraits of Sean Connery.

The Diary – Dukebox Launch Chelsea

Last night saw the longly anticipated opening of Dukebox in Chelsea. The talk around town was that Dukebox was going to fill the gap that the infamous Public nightclub left behind. Owner Howard Spooner, previously owner of Public, has created a club that has a New York loft feel combined with a fair ground. Staff are dressed in toy box military coats, there are carousel horses, a roundabout podium, caged jack-in-the-boxes, booths in the guise of Waltzer cars, a giant duck-on-a-spring and private dance floor caves, so basically one big grown up’s play ground. Guests included Made in Chelsea’s Jamie Laing, Francis Boulle, Ollie Proudlock and Rosie Fortescue, other guest’s included Cressida Bonas, Otis Ferry, Drummond Money-Coutts and Henry Conway. Guests nibbled on Love Da Popcorn and marshmallows, washed down by Champagne and delicious raspberry vodka cocktails. Fun, fun, fun.

This week saw the launch of Amazon’s new kindle, it was a move that sent shockwaves through the tech world, and it was undoubtedly a forward thinking move from the online retailer. The question that still remains is can the Kindle really become the number one tablet? With a much more attractive price tag than Apple’s iPad and with an HD screen, all the initial signs look good. The price difference is not a small one either, you can expect to see the Kindle Fire retailing in the UK for £129, significantly cheaper than Apple’s £399 entry iPad. You may be thinking how can Amazon be this competitive, well the fact is, Amazon believe they can make money from the selling of magazines, movies and music for customers to use on their device.

It is fair to say that Spanish Rioja isn’t everyone’s cup of tea, however this isn’t your average earthy Rioja, it is much brighter. It is made with 100% Tempranillo grapes and aged for 12 months in American oak barrels. In terms of taste, think spiced summer fruits, and on the pallet it is very smooth with a little oak and toasted notes. The finish is a warm and long one, and overall this is a great all rounder. This wine is great with everything from cured meats to Mediterranean cuisine.
