"When you get into a Moke, you’re licensed to have fun, and that's really quite special”

The Moke is up there with one of the more curious cars in motoring history. Born from a military misfire, this pint-sized runabout accidentally became a cult-classic when it was adopted by the jet-set and barefoot beachgoers of the 1960s, who fell in love with its care-free charm and suitability for life in the sun. But, like any self-respecting celebrity, the Moke has undergone a transformation of late. As the name edges into its 60s, it’s had a hefty and healthy nip and tuck, if you will, to prep it for its electric return to the spotlight.

"Whatever we do, the Moke will always be the Moke,” insists Nick English, the new Chairman of Moke International – the company behind the new generation of the beach buggy. “We're custodians of a very special brand here. We're not trying to cause a revolution in design."
