What your Drink of Choice Says About You

You may not think it, but your choice of drink says a lot about you. Stereotypes, gender or otherwise are still, unfortunately, commonplace and when it comes to drinking alcohol at least, you can be sure that those around, including the bartender, will be summing you up to within an inch of your life. It seems everyone has an opinion so if you want to come off favourably then check out the following and act accordingly.

BEER, , Unsophisticated and old-hat, beer is the fuel of men on a Friday night bar crawl. Unwaveringly masculine, what beer lacks in complexity it makes up for in ‘man points’, but if you begin to raise your voice in any way whilst drinking it, you’ll look like a douche.

ALE, , What was once a drink reserved for the bar hugging older man is now deemed cool, and an influx of brands aimed at a youthful market has caused somewhat of a revolution within the world of ale. If you are young and drink this you’ll be channelling some serious hipster vibes but those of age can pull it off quite nicely.

WINE, , Whilst wine is the choice of those with taste, it can, unfortunately, make you look slightly too high-brow when ordered on a night out. You can get away with it though, just so long as you don’t start swirling or sniffing.

CIDER, , Avoid the fruity stuff if you want to retain any of your masculinity. Traditional ‘flat’ cider is for those who know their stuff, but the likes of Strongbow and Blackthorn is reserved for flocks of teenagers looking to get wrecked in some local park in Slough.

WHISKY, , Order it neat and you’re a badass. Order it ‘on the rocks’ and, perhaps unknowingly, you may even release some of the aromas that were previously trapped. Either way, whisky is a drink for those who like their flavours complex and punchy, so don’t flinch.

COCKTAILS, , True gentlemen are wary of cocktails. Anything too fruity is a no-go and will instantly remove all credibility. Similarly, anything with a name straight out of the Kama Sutra is off the cards. Drinks steeped in history will show you know your stuff though, so pat yourself on the back if you favour an ‘old fashioned’ or a ‘caipirinha’.
