Boisdale Of Belgravia – London’s best Scottish restaurant
Tucked away off the busy Buckingham Palace Road, this homage to Scotland, Jazz and the good old days, will get your sense in overload. The Journal explains more.
There are not many places in London that are great to take both a first date or go for a boys night out, however Boisdale is one of them.
As soon as you walk through the door you are greeted by a corridor-long humidor containing some of the finest cigars, and in the main restaurant you get a real feel of an old Gentleman’s Club meets 40’s Jazz bar.
Boisdale is known for it’s great steaks and they don’t disappoint, they come with a choice of various sides. I went for the 40 day aged 10oz Rump Steak with Béarnaise sauce, which is priced at £18.50. This is one of the cheaper steaks as they go up to £51.00, so it is by no means cheap. However, this is the sort of place you go to occasionally to treat yourself, for an evening’s entertainment and not just for the food.
There are other options on the menu if steak doesn’t take your fancy, from Dover Sole, to Braised Kidneys and a great Caesar Salad, however, at £16.50 it should be just that.
We had a great bottle of Fleurie, which was reasonably priced, and it accompanied the red meat perfectly. After dinner we went to sample the impressive whisky list on the even more impressive heated smoking terrace. The terrace is furnished with sofa’s and armchairs and in the winter you are offered tartan rugs to keep you warm if the heaters don’t do the trick.
After you have finished your whisky and Cigar then you can go back down to the restaurant to finish your wine and watch some great jazz, however, a little tip make sure you tell the waiter to keep your table, as this is a busy place at the weekends.
Boisdale’s is very unique and is perfect for an evening out, however, be prepared to spend some money to get the best out of it.
